Mark Travers’ paintings embodies precision, elegance, and geometric rigor. Travers creates abstract references to architecture, street grids and other aspects of urban life. As a painter, he is interested in light and its translucence through the layering of opaque paints and varnishes. His technique creates an ethereal, visual ‘shift,’ reminiscent of light shining through stained glass, almost as if a doorway or window has opened to a new, other-worldly dimension.
Travers earned a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA from Pratt Institute in New York. He lives and works in St. Louis.
