Jantar-Mantar performance by Mee Jey

Gallery artist Mee Jey will have a Jantar-Mantar performance on Sunday, December 3, 2023, 12-3 pm at the 21c Hotel-Museum, St, Louis. Free and All are welcome.

Described as a desperate act of hope, Jantar Mantar is an ongoing community engaged project from St. Louis based artist Mee Jey. In the transformative Jantar Mantar project, Mee Jey beckons participants to weave their aspirations, hopes, and prayers into a communal tapestry, fostering a collective vision for a safe and joyful future for children. Regardless of our belief system or spiritual inclination, each of us wishes the best for the next generation. Many cultures use talismans, whether physical or spoken, as protective guards. Jantar Mantar is a collective-conscious act of wishing good for our children. Participants are invited to attach their own small object or talisman to the ‘thread’ or imbue their wishes onto the objects that the artist will provide. Bring your family, friends, and community to join your hopes to Jantar Mantar.

Mee Jey is the inaugural Art and Culture Ambassador for 21c St. Louis. She is a multidisciplinary artist, whose work centers on the life experiences of immigrants. Jantar Mantar highlights a thread within Mee Jey’s artistic practice which focuses on the urgent need for making a safer and a more loving world for our children. This project represents a direction to turn to when other avenues have failed but hope is not lost.
