Bruno David Gallery is pleased to announce the representation of Lisa Bulawsky.
Lisa Bulawsky is a visual artist widely recognized for her works on paper, installation, and temporary public projects. Her works have been exhibited in the United States and abroad, including the International Print Center New York, Sweden’s Dalarnas Museum, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, and the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her work has also been featured in Printmaking at the Edge (A&C Black, 2006), as well as Printmaking: A Complete Guide to Materials and Processes (Prentice Hall, 2009) and American Print Makers (Shiffer, 2014).
Her current project uses the printed mark as a foundational metaphor for history that is marked by ruptures and continuities of time. She is curating the accumulated marks created by the happy accidents of printmaking on sheets of newsprint backing paper, and juxtaposing them with other accidental marks, byproducts, and images, including iconic news photos of world events. In her collage series, NP-C (amor fati), Bulawsky intervenes in the newsprint compositions with pieces of printed material from her studio, committing to the ecology of marks that are already present by making no new marks, only arrangements.
Lisa Bulawsky (b. 1962, Sunnyvale, CA) is based in St. Louis, MO. She received her MFA from the University of Kansas, and a BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a Professor of Art at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and the Director of Island Press. On June 8, 2018, the gallery will present Lisa Bulawsky’s debut exhibition with the Bruno David Gallery, featuring new works on paper.
